Sources said the delegation includes officials of Wapda, Nespak and the ministry. Nespak has finalised the feasibility study in this regard on the direction of the Ministry. Pakistan has already signed MoU for import of 1000 MW power from Tajikistan, early this year.
The ministry is of the view that import of 1000 MW power at cheaper rates would provide electricity to the people of far-flung areas, meet the future energy requirements and help eliminate load-shedding in the country.
Nespak has informed the ministry that scope of the project is to import 1000 MW from Tajikistan for which suitable transmission line through a feasible route of Rogun (Tajikistan), Wakhan (Afghanistan) and Peshawar-Chitral will have to be constructed along with terminal switchyards, and a switching station at a suitable location.
The generation source at Tajikistan will be Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant on Vakhsh river but can be supplemented by other hydro power plants on the same river, the sources added.
Sources maintained that talks will be held on the proposed rates of electricity and its early import.
